Quinlan Kurtycz is an American songwriter and guitarist whose work centers on emotional intimacy and tension through indie rock, drawing influences from 2nd wave emo, math rock, and Midwest emo. Based in Memphis, TN, Quinlan also works as an independent recording and mixing engineer.

He began making music at an early age on his family’s piano, pressing keys and exploring music without limitation. By the time he entered college, Quinlan found himself craving deeper connection through music in his otherwise solo work. This desire led to the formation of the band Bored to Tears in 2022.

Through their shared passion for music and the band’s magnetic live performances, the band helped build an incredible community in the unlikely town of Starkville, MS. During this time, Quinlan regularly worked within local scene organizing and supporting shows and art markets with Starkville D.I.Y.

Building on this momentum, Bored to Tears released their self-titled debut EP in early 2023. With recorded music in the world, new opportunities followed, including a 9-day tour across the Midwest and opening slots for genre staples like Camping in Alaska and Micheal Cera Palin.

Surrounded by friends and collaborators, Quinlan continued to expand his creative scope. In 2024, he formed and wrote for the bands Dream Year and Memorial Bridge.

Quinlan’s musical journey culminates in Bored to Tears’ 2025 album Leave the Light On for Me. This album captures the 3 years of growth and friendship of Bored to Tears as a band exploring themes of dysfunctional relationships and the fragility of intimacy and connection.

With an album under his belt, Quinlan continues creating music rooted in honesty, vulnerability, and connection.
